Okoora was named last week as one of business paper Calcalist’s list of 50 Most Promising Startups. Compiled based on feedback from venture capital funds operating in Israel, okoora was the highest ranked bootstrapped (i.e. self-funded) company on the list.
A special thanks is in order to our clients for whom we build great products and to our people, each and every one of them. You’re all living proof that anything is possible as we continually strive to build the best tools for cross-border businesses.
The major achievement of getting a spot on Calcalist’s list reinforces the feeling of accomplishment we had when we won a Digital Banking Award from IBS Intelligence in April. IBS Intelligence, a leading global financial technology research, news analysis, and advisory firm, named us as winners in the category of Forex Management after evaluating 60 financial technology projects across multiple geographies.
“IBS Intelligence recognized this year okoora’s excellence in Forex Management, with their innovative platform and commitment to empowering businesses of all sizes with effective currency risk management solutions,” said Nikhil Gokhale, Director of Research and Digital Properties at IBS Intelligence, after announcing okoora’s victory.

Okoora’s ongoing expansion
This goal of developing tools to effectively serve small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and not just big businesses, is crucial to our success, not only in the Israeli market but also Europe. Some 46% of imports in the EU and 37% of exports by value in 2019 involved SMEs, according to Eurostat – the statistical office of the European Union. Considering this amounts to trillions of euros in cross-border payments, it should go without saying that these businesses should have access to an intuitive platform that enables them to make and receive payments while managing their currency risk.
For this reason, we set up an office in Cyprus last year and will soon launch our services in our first significant-sized European market.
However, we’re not only expanding geographically but also in terms of functionality. The launch the other month of our App Marketplace means okoora’s platform users now can purchase services complementary to core okoora’s platform functions on our platform. We expect to expand the app offerings over time in accordance with customer needs and feedback.
